Renowned actress Jaya Ahsan, a celebrated name across both Bangladesh and India’s Tollywood industry, continues to thrive in her career spanning over three decades. From modeling and television dramas to award-winning films, she has carved a space for herself in both countries’ entertainment industries.
Jaya made her Tollywood debut a decade ago with the film “Aborto”, and has since become a regular presence in Indian Bengali cinema. This Eid, two of her Bangladeshi films—“Tandob” and “Utsob”—were released in local theaters. Meanwhile, her upcoming Kolkata-based film “Dear Maa” is set to release on July 18, already creating buzz with the tagline: “A bond of blood, or a pull of love?”
In a recent interview with Anandabazar Patrika, Jaya opened up about her personal life, especially regarding marriage, solitude, and past relationships.
Speaking on the topic of marriage, Jaya commented:
“Marriage feels so old-school now. But then again, these things are cyclical—they come and go. Every person and relationship is unique. All my past relationships have been deeply meaningful. They made me who I am today. We can’t just throw them away. Even the mistakes were mine—and I accept them as part of my journey.”
Discussing the state of modern relationships, she added:
“These days, no one wants to be in a proper relationship! It’s all about ‘situationships’ and countless undefined dynamics. The thoughts are all there, but the connection is missing.”
Earlier, in response to a question about choosing to remain single, Jaya said:
“I don’t plan anything. If I ever feel like moving from single to being in a relationship, I will—if I feel the need. But right now, I’m completely at peace and content. I have no such plans at the moment.”
In a previous interview with Filmfare magazine, Jaya spoke candidly about navigating heartbreak:
“Ups and downs are a part of life. It felt like a battle, and that phase changed my mindset. I completely shifted my focus to work. Many women lose direction during such times—but work gave me comfort. That’s why I fell in love with my craft. I never distanced myself from it. I cherish this journey, and it’s through this that people have come to appreciate me.”
Jaya recently starred in the Hindi film “Kadak Singh”, directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, which premiered on the Zee5 OTT platform.
Her candid reflections on life, independence, and commitment to her art continue to resonate with fans across borders, making her an enduring figure of strength and elegance in South Asian cinema.
