Celebrities such as Bradley Cooper, Mila Kunis, Dyan Cannon, Fran Drescher, and more have opened up about their views on playing the field and embracing casual arrangements.
Sometimes, life really does mirror the movies.
That was exactly the case for Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, who defied the core messages of their respective 2011 rom-coms and gave a “friends with benefits” setup a try—no strings attached.
Kunis recalled on The Howard Stern Show in 2016, “I did Friends With Benefits, he did a movie called No Strings Attached. If we just paid attention to these movies, we should know that s–t like this does not work out in real life. Well, we clearly didn’t pay attention. We shook hands, we’re like, ‘Let’s just have fun!’”
But about three months into their casual fling, Kunis admitted, “I was like, ‘This isn’t fun anymore!’”
She decided to visit her former That ’70s Show co-star and have an honest conversation.
“I was like, you know what, ‘I actually care about you. I don’t want to mess anything up so I’m just going to walk away before it becomes too much,’” she explained during a 2018 appearance on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast. “And he was like, ‘Got it.’ And the next day, he showed up to my house and he was like, ‘Move in with me,’ and I said, ‘Okay.’”
Of course, not every friends-with-benefits agreement ends in a decade-long marriage and a family.
Years before he was linked to Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper was enjoying a more casual connection with his high school best friend.
“As we are both seniors, I realize that we might as well just enjoy the time we have left before we go to college,” a young Cooper wrote in an op-ed for the Philadelphia Daily News during his internship. “Because once college hits, our relationship will definitely return to ‘best friendship.’”
And age is certainly no barrier to casual companionship. Dyan Cannon recently shared with People that she currently has “several” special partners. “I have friends with benefits, yes,” she confirmed.
Celebrities such as Fran Drescher, Sonja Morgan, and Florence Henderson of The Brady Bunch fame have also spoken about the perks of such arrangements, each sharing their own approach to keeping things light and enjoyable.
