Actor Ahsan Habib Nasim has served as the elected leader of the Actors’ Equity Bangladesh for three consecutive terms. Throughout this time, he worked relentlessly for the welfare of its members. Reflecting on his journey, he wrote:
“From February 2017 to April 2025, I was elected twice as General Secretary and once as President of Actors’ Equity. During this period, I worked with various stakeholders to protect the interests of all actors.”
Nasim shared that he has been associated with the organization since the beginning of his acting career. Even before holding the positions of General Secretary and President, he had served the organization in various capacities. As the outgoing President, he emphasized that he used his vast experience to promote unity and friendship among artists and crew members alike, helping the organization move forward.
He added, “We created a healthy and respectful shooting environment by connecting with actors, directors, producers, cinematographers, light artists, makeup artists, production boys and managers, entertainment journalists, and many other professionals. Additionally, we achieved notable successes in areas such as artist safety and social dignity.”
Nasim acknowledged that while there were many achievements, mistakes were also made during his tenure. He urged everyone to view those mistakes with a forgiving heart, writing:
“There may have been some shortcomings in our journey. I kindly ask for your understanding and forgiveness in those cases.”
Although he had been elected twice consecutively as General Secretary and most recently as President, he did not take part in this year’s election. Explaining why, he stated:
“I was very conscious to ensure that the position itself did not become my primary focus. That’s why I chose not to participate in this election.”
He expressed deep gratitude to all the artists, organizations involved in the acting industry, and entertainment journalists who supported him throughout his leadership.
“I sincerely thank all the colleagues from the three executive committees I’ve worked with,” he added.
The election for the new three-year term concluded last Saturday. Azad Abul Kalam was elected as President with 310 votes, while Rashed Mamun Apu won the General Secretary position with 367 votes.
In a message to the 21 newly elected members, Nasim wrote:
“To everyone who participated in the 2025 election—my love and respect. Congratulations to those who won. May Actors’ Equity Bangladesh move forward with new energy and continue being the trusted organization of our acting community.”
